About Capri: It is an island situated a few kilometres off Sorrento in the Tyrrheanian Sea, on the South side off of the gulf of Naples in a region of Italy called Campania. Capri is just over 10 km2 (4 square miles) with a population of 12000 people. Its two town are called Capri (like the island) and Anacapri. It has hills and cliffs. It’s highest point is Monte Solaro where the tutor takes the group every year (no walking) - with an elevation of 589 meters (1932 feet). It is also known for its famous drink made of local lemons: Limoncello!
Anacapri (town): It is a commune of Capri island and holds treasures such as Axel Munth’s Villa San Michele, gorgeous Monte Solaro, and Cassa Rossa. All three are definite bucket list “superbes” when visiting Capri!
Monte Solaro: This cliffy mount is hands down one of the most spectacular views on the planet (no exaggeration). It offers 360° views of Capri and the Italian mainland coast with a view of the Vesuvius volcano. A perfect place to paint. There is a chair lift to get there from Anacapri (very slow and easy), and also a snack bar where you can enjoy the views with a drink.
DAY 4 Breakfast, lazy morning. Train to Herculaneum. Sightseeing, lunch and afternoon sketching and painting at Herculaneum.
DAY 5 Breakfast. Free day. Why not visit Naples (by train) or Amalfi (by bus). No meals on the free day.
DAY 6 Breakfast. Day’s excursion to POMPEII, which group and tutor will reach by ferry (not included) and by train (included) from Sorrento, about 30 minutes. Packed lunch brought to Pompeii and afternoon spent in the mysterious ancient city. We will not be doing full-fledged painting inside, but rather sketching. You will then able to sightsee inside the mysterious ruins at your own pace. Back to Capri in the evening. Dinner party at the accommodation with wine and our very own private art showcase!!!
About POMPEII: This very famous antique city smothered in ashes and volcano rock in the 79 AD Mount Vesuvius explosion, was rediscovered and unearthed in the 18th century. Fascinating discoveries are ongoing to this day.
DAY 7: Breakfast. Late morning train to Sorrento. Lunch in Sorrento followed by an onsite painting session.
DAY 8: Breakfast and goodbyes after check-out.
Mobility: If you are generally relatively fit, and can walk at a normal pace, you can skip this part.
Test: I can walk 20 to 25 minutes and climb one or two flights of stairs without it being strenuous.
