Built in the 14th century by the Counts of Villeneuve on the seaside road, the castle and its gardens are listed as historic monuments by decree of January 6, 19471 and the park is labeled “Remarkable Garden”. Lunch at the villa followed by a 90-minute painting session to finish our Blavet Canyon painting or other paintings. Free time back at the accommodation. Dinner at the villa.
Blavet (pronounced Blah-vé) is a small canyon just 10 minutes from our art studio. When sunlit, a wide range of orange and pink hues tint the canyon rocks, much like a Corsican landscape. A magnificent panorama opens up 360° to the viewer from our painting spot, going from the Blavet rocks, to the mediterranean behind us, the Collet Redon, and an incredibly dense Provence pine forest to our left. A quiet and delightful place to paint!
DAY 5: Breakfast. Morning painting at the workshop. Lunch at the villa. Free afternoon to rest. WINE TASTING at a nearby Provence wine domain. Dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 6: Breakfast. Free morning. Lunch at a restaurant with view on the Lac de Roquebrune (lake) where we will paint in the afternoon. Fabulous view of the Rocher de Roquebrune (red mount / rock).
The Rock of Roquebrune is a mountain located in the Var department in France in the communes of Roquebrune-sur-Argens. Classified as being of national interest, the mountain, made up of sedimentary deposits, peaks at an altitude of 373 metres. Formerly called "rock of the 3 Crosses", the site had an important religious value in the Middle Ages and was the subject of pilgrimages. The formation of the Rocher de Roquebrune dates from the primary era, from the Silurian. Previously, the mouth of the Argens was covered by the sea. For nearly 100 million years, a thick layer of sediment was deposited on the bottom of what subsequently became the Argens plain. Then folds of the land lead to the formation of the Maures massif, initially, and the Rocher de Roquebrune subsequently. Its reddish color comes from a high concentration of iron oxide. The rock is crossed by many faults, cracks, and other caves. Painting at the lake, our participants get a beautiful view on both the lakes and the rock.
DAY 7: Breakfast. Mid morning drive to SAINT TROPEZ. You’ll be free to sightsee before lunch at a restaurant there. Charming afternoon painting session in the shade in the heart of Saint Tropez.
Saint-Tropez is a commune in the Var department in the region of Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur in Southern France. It is 68 kilometres (42 miles) west of the city of Nice and 100 kilometres (62 miles) east of Marseille, of which it is one of the best-known towns. Its population is approximately 4200. The narrow body of water, Gulf of Saint-Tropez, stretches from Saint Tropez to Saint Maxime under the Massif des Maures. Originally a fishing village, Saint Tropez was made famous by the French actress Brigitte Bardot in the 1960’s and has since been well known to the Jetset from around the world. Millionaires’ yachts dock at its little port and yet, thankfully some of the back beaches have remained charming and authentic. Perfect to paint!
DAY 8: Breakfast. Departure for Nice Airport at 9.00 AM. Approximate arrival at 10.00 AM.
